Default Setting up 750+ products w/ categories

    Hi everyone!

I am in the process of moving my products to zen cart. It's a bit of a burden since I have over 750 of them. I've gone through about 100 so far. They are all digital downloads, so thankfully I have the attributes and whatnot figured out. ;-)

My issue is sorting them into categories. I know that I need to have a product in a master category, and then I can link it to any other related category as needed.

I had categories set up in my other shop. I recreated those categories in my zen cart so that my products can be sorted pretty much the same way as they have been. So what I have been doing is putting a product into one main category, and then I am going to go back and link each product in each main category to their related categories.

I am wondering though if this was the best way to do it. After I am done, every category will have a mix of base products and linked products. Should I have put everything into one BIG category and linked them out to other categories? Or is my current method going to be just fine in the long run?

I am new enough that I could very well be making this way too complicated, lol! ;-)

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions...

    Melissa

You can put your products into any category you like. You can even move them around later, in addition to optionally linking them to multiple categories if that's important for you.

Thanks Dr. Byte! This was sort of a silly rant I guess... sorry for all of the babbling. I ended up just digging my heels in and JUST DOING IT. They're all added now. I have other questions now that I've posted throughout the forums.

Thank you though for hopping in!
