Default Hosting 2 installs on the one site (one for dev, one for live)

    Hi

    Thanks for a great project.

I've successfully installed v1.50 on my host with sample data, have purchased the manual (which is excellent) and have been working through that with sample customers, sending emails, new categories and products, etc.

All that is going well, but I think I might like to change my approach: I would like to keep doing that at, say, mysite.com/testdrive or testdrive.mysite.com, but as I learn I'd like to also start developing the real site at mysite.com without the clutter of the sample data.

I want to keep the sample data at the testdrive site because it's a great learning aid (and I still have a lot to learn!).

Can I have 2 installs of Zen-Cart at those 2 locations? If so, should I use a subfolder in my root directory (mysite.com/testdrive) or should I use a subdomain (testdrive.mysite.com)?

Any comments or suggestions most welcome.

    Thank you

    Howcho

OK, I've basically found the answer from the "Similar Threads" below. (I hadn't used the word "multiple" in my original forum search. Doh!)

My last question still stands, though: should I use a subfolder or a subdomain.

    Thanks again.

The choice is yours. Zen Cart will work fine either way. Doing it in a subfolder is probably more straightforward for you in terms of configuration.

If you put it into a sub-folder, you can also password-protect that folder with a htaccess username and password. This stops everybody from accessing the installation - including search engines...

If you have an SSL certificate, that certificate will also apply to a subfolder (www.yourdomain.com/subfolder) while I'm pretty sure that it doesn't apply to a subdomain.
