The Authorize.net site would be the best place to get the detailed list of differences.

    Short version:
    - AIM gives a seamless experience to customers, since they can enter their card number directly on your site. Nice and simple and easy for the customer.
    - SIM requires that the customer be taken to the authnet website, which probably looks different than yours, where they enter their card data before being redirected back to your store to complete the order.

The "A" in "AIM" stands for "Advanced".

Ok, that is better expained that what I have read.
Few more notes, does the Advanced version, support most credit cards, or do I have to enable this in the admin. Do I have to do check on the credit cards with this advanced version?
    Thanks

It supports whatever credit cards Authorize.net supports.

In your store admin, you will have to enable whichever credit card types your Authorize.net account supports, after you find out that information from Authorize.net.
With that information from them, go into Admin->Configuration->Credit Cards.

If you're asking whether you need to do due diligence to minimize your risk of fraud, yes. You have to do that with EVERY payment regardless of which payment module or gateway is used.
You should NEVER offload risk management to anyone else.
