    Default Performance problem- Loads SLOW

I just put my WIP site online and I'm noticing that it loads VERY slow, on every computer I try. Sometimes images don't even load up and all I get is the alternate text. Usually if I just hit the refresh button then it will load up fine but I'm thinking this is going to be a problem for visitors. I followed some suggestions on this page http://www.zen-cart.com/content.php?...eed-up-my-site and it seemed to help a little but it's still way too slow. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

I ran a performance check at webpagetest.org and I'm getting an F grade for the first and last category, 'First Byte Time' and 'Cache static content'. Here are two screenshots of the problems although I have no idea how to interpret them. Any help is appreciated.

Most of those suggestions from webpagetest.org are secondary things that will only result in marginal improvements. They won't fix the symptoms you described in your first post, so don't focus on those. They're for fine-tuning much later.

Let me know if this is enough info to start with.

    • What version of Zen Cart? 1.5
    • Is it a new install or an upgrade? First time installing.
    • What the addons/contributions you have installed? Simple Google Analytics, Zen Lightbox, SEO URLS, Image Handler 4, Sitemap XML, Backup Zencart
    • What customizations have you made? Massive to the template, just basic layout stuff though.
    • What type of server are you using? I'm hosted on BlueHost and I believe they are running a linux based server.
    • What version of PHP is installed on the server? 5.2.17
    • What version of MYSQL is installed on the server? 5.1.65
    • What you were doing when your problem occurred? Site loads slow. As long as I can remember, it's always seemed to be sluggish. I'm not 100% either but I feel like it got more slower after I installed my SSL, which is from RapidSSL.

Not sure, sometimes it's fine, sometimes I notice a ton of lag and stuff won't even fully load (images).

Can I request that my stuff be moved to a server that's less crowded? Is that an option or should I try to deal with it as it is?

You can ask. But there are few guarantees that the server won't eventually also become crowded. They might upsell you to a VPS if you need more certainty on reserved CPU time, but a VPS is often an overly aggressive step and unnecessarily expensive.
