non-english customized HTML email order confirmation

In my old store which is still running I use mail/mail_template_checkout.html as a html file for my email confirmations.

I am setting up a new store and installed it in /new/ for testing purposes. Somebody else installed the old store a long time ago, so I don;t know how they altered some core files.

I have the same email settings as the old store which sends confirmation emails in html, but whatever I do with my new site I can't get it to send html email confirmations. Whatever I change in the template_checkout.html, it doesn't affect the email message at all, so it doesn't selects the template.

I have the following setting in my new store:
Email method: php
Use mime/html: true
Email admin format: html
I have a mail template stored in /mail and a copy in /mail/nl. I do not have a html editor installed as addon to ZC, because I use the plain text editor. Could that be the problem, or does someone else has any idea?

I have red about this problem on the forum, but didn't find the answer to my problem yet.

Does the customer account you're testing from have HTML emails selected ?

Yes, the test customer has it selected. It is selected by default when a customer signs in.

What happens if you send an email containing some HTML to the same 'customer' from Admin - Tools - Send Email ?

It hardly opens the page. I am waiting for 5 minutes and it doesn't open. It shows the toolbar, the title: "send email to customers" and the selection box text edit: plain text.

My browser says: transfering data, but nothing happens now. I had it once this afternoon after 10 minutes.

After a while it loaded and I send an email to the same customer using the richt-text-message box.
The sample message showed me a bold text, but the email that was received didn't had the bold text.

I usually recommend re-uploading all the admin files and folders, overwriting what's there, for problems like this, unless you've modified a lot of them.

I just finished adding the EU vat module, with cost me a lot of work. Next to that there are already a few addons like SEO URL and a few litte addon's.

I hope there will be an other way to deal with this

I compared the includes/functions/functions_email.php with the original files and they were exact the same.

What files can I compare more with the original files which involves sending html email messages?

In addition I installed the email archive manager to see if there would be a problem with my hosting provider. The emails that are in the archive, are there as TEXT messages and not as html.
