Can't access local admin after install

Hi guys - pulling out my hair (and I don't have any). I just installed a copy of 1.3.9h on my laptop. I am using this installation to test the addition of some web fonts to a client's site and use it as a platform for a later upgrade to the current version.

I installed this version and installation went smoothly. I can access the store. I can also access the test site root. when I try and access admin (this is the first time) I get a 404 error - Object not found! I tried renaming the .htaccess to .htaccess.bak and flushing the browser cache.....same error!

There is nothing special about this installation and I have installations for 1.5 running on the same laptop. What can be wrong.....? Got no errors on the installation and it was a clean, new installation.

The XAMPP version I am using has Apache/2.2.21 (Win32) mod_ssl/2.2.21 OpenSSL/1.0.0e PHP/5.3.8 mod_perl/2.0.4 Perl/v5.10.1

Did you look in the XAMPP apache logs (usually c:/xampp/apache/logs/access.log) to see where the 404 came from?

Did you make sure to edit the /YOUR_ADMIN/includes/configure.php file to update all the directories to reflect the renamed admin directory? The auto-detect feature for the directory name in the admin file was introduced in v1.5.0.

Sometimes you can stare at a problem so long that you don't see the obvious! Thank lat9. That was the problem. The configure.php file.
