Help please. Urgent. My site paypal express stopped working () - (28) connect() timed

Hi,
This is my first time in Zencart forum.
I recently experienced a problem with my site ( www.mmaapparel.com.au) using Paypal express checkout.
Anyone that uses the Paypal Express checkout gets this error:
'An error occurred when we tried to contact the payment processor. Please try again, select an alternate payment method, or contact the store owner for assistance. () - (28) connect() timed out!'
I am using v1.3.9f of Zencart.
The Paypal express module has all the correct API details.

I'm loosing a lot of potential sales because of this issue. If you could help please let me know.

(28) connect() timed out!

That means when Zen Cart attempted to use PHP's CURL client to connect to PayPal's servers, it failed because the attempted connection timed out, ie: took longer than 45 seconds.

This is basically the same thing that happens in your own browser (IE/Firefox/etc) when you try to go to a website that's unresponsive.

It could be a result of the server being down, or the URL being wrong, or something blocking it in the server's internet configuration or firewall. It could also be something wrong with the server's DNS or resolv.cfg settings.
It's something your hosting company's server administrator must fix for you.

I'm confused by this. They are now charging me to get them to fix and implement the Paypal module again which will take 3 days.
Can anyone shed a light on this please?

Before I can comment on this, I guess the 1st thing we need to know is what version of ZenCart are running?

Although I'm not familiar with all the details I am aware that the PayPal Express module has undergone numerous changes over the years. If you haven't kept up to date with things it is quite possible that something no longer works.

Having said that, I am more interested in knowing what has *recently* changed in your store, because it is quite unusual for this type of problem to occur 'out of the blue'

Not really. It isn't for your host or site creator to 'fix' any zencart code. Installing, or re-installing something that has gotten broken somehow is a different matter. I am assuming that the 3 days will be how long until they can devote the resoursces to fixing the problem, rather than the amount of time it is actually going to take to fix.

This a worry.... 3 years would imply that you are running Zencart V1.3.8a (or earlier). You may have been hacked.

Bollocks. Either you're misunderstanding what they're telling you, or they're lying or they don't have a clue what they're talking about and thus should not be trusted to fix it for any fee.

NOw they are telling me that paypal maybe blocking my site..eitherway i tried to find contact on paypal mercharnt services but no number only email

It's highly unlikely that PayPal is blocking you.

You can contact them by logging a ticket at www.paypal.com/mts

You can also remove Zen Cart from the picture and just test PayPal connectivity directly by using the utility in your "extras" folder, as described here:

If your hosting company is willing to do more than pass the buck by blaming PayPal, they could look at that curltester script and use it to do deep diagnostics on their server to find out exactly why they're getting a timeout.

Chances are your hosting company has an outdated DNS cache and is pointing the PayPal server URL to an obsolete IP address.
Again, if they're not passing the buck then you should be able to get them to give you the IP address that their server is pointing to when it attempts to connect to the PayPal servers (the URL is in the curltester.php script), and see whether it matches the IP addresses PayPal has said it should resolve to: https://ppmts.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/92 If the server isn't resolving the name to the correct IP address, then the server is misconfigured. This is basic server stuff and the hosting company's server administrator should already be an expert in those things.

Sounds like your curltester.php script file is missing, or you mistyped the name.

For ipncheck.php I got

Looks like you have an old version. It should say Version 1.3.9 since you said you're using v1.3.9f of Zen Cart.
