1.3.8->1.5.1 stuck on "Admin Password required to proceed with upgrade"

Hosting company upgraded to PHP 5.3.19 and broke our store.

I've copied my db and files to a safe area, then created a new db and uploaded the 1.5.1 files over my old 1.3.8 files, putting the new db info into the config files. When I run zc_install and put in the admin credentials on the DB Upgrade page, I get: "Admin Password required to proceed with upgrade".
I've used phpMyAdmin to change the admin account to Admin/Admin. zc_install indicates I'm pointed at the new/correct db.

I've been unable to find a clue in the fora how to get past this; hopefully I haven't missed something simple.

The password is simply your admin login password.

If you've forgotten it and done a reset in the database, then you'll need to use the password described in the FAQ on doing that reset in the database. Passwords and usernames are case sensitive. The password you posted above is incorrect in that case.

To get past the point where I was stuck, I did a fresh install of 1.5.1 on a different server, setting the administrator credentials to admin/admin01. I then used the encoded password generated during the install to phpMyAdmin update the administrator account in my old db. I was able to proceed using these new credentials.

During the install, there's a check that the password is 7 or more characters. Is it possible that I was running into a situation where zc_install authorization was failing due to the shortness of the "Admin" password? (As described here: http://www.zen-cart.com/content.php?...28i-lost-it%29)

No, that would not cause the problem you described.
