    Default Additional Images

I have been following a image standard of modelno.jpg, modelno_a.jpg, etc., for all my images. I have little problems with this setup with respect to multiple images and have 1600+ skus. I recently updated about 150+ new product skus, again using the product model number as the image name, in this particular case: A800, A800C, A800CN, essentially a single product in different configurations. As you can expect, when I go to product A800, I see an image for product A800C. I just realized I can have different folders under the image folder to handle cross contamination (if you will) between other product categories (maybe an A800X in a different product category), but what does one do in the situation I have described above?

    Thanks!
    Brian

Interestingly enough, I created a sub directory under Images, placed all the images (including the ones that were showing up when they weren't supposed to, like A800C, A800CN, etc.) and I only get the images I would expect to show up on the page. I wonder why it would work this way and not when it is under the /images directory?

Because of the method that Zen Cart uses to match additional product images, an image named A800C is an additional image for the image named A800 and an image named A800CN is an additional image for both the image named A800 and the one named A800C. You're right, you can create separate directories to handle the like-named images and point the products' images to that product-specific directory:

    /images/A800/A800.jpg
    /images/A800C/A800C.jpg
    /images/A800CN/A800CN.jpg

Yes... while there are lots of advantages to the way zencart recognises additional images, there is also this type of behaviour which is a disadvantage.

I have found that appending an UNDERSCORE and numerical sequence can help.

EG, for images AS800C.jpg and AS800CD.jpg

    MAIN IMAGE : AS800C.jpg
    1st ADDITIONAL: AS800C_01.jpg
    2nd ADDITIONAL: AS800C_02.jpg
    3rd ADDITIONAL: AS800C_03.jpg

    MAIN IMAGE : AS800CD.jpg
    1st ADDITIONAL: AS800CD_01.jpg
    2nd ADDITIONAL: AS800CD_02.jpg
    3rd ADDITIONAL: AS800CD_03.jpg

Try this... it may split them up...

    From the tutorial:
    http://www.zen-cart.com/content.php?...s-to-a-product
However ... if using SUBDIRECTORIES such as /images/mystuff then you need the underscore ( _ ):
When the main image is in a subfolder of /images/, only suffixes that start with _ are recognized.
    /images/subimages/fred.jpg
    recognizes additional images like
    /images/subimages/fred_dy.jpg
    but not like
    /images/subimages/freddy.jpg

It seems that it would make sense to extend this behavior to all product images... maybe someday...

Thanks for that, Glenn. Since I've always used the underscore separator and had unique basenames, I never realized that there was a difference in the processing based on the images sub-directory.

Actually, there is a little quirk on the naming conventions ... debating on which way to go with this ...

    On the Main Directory:
    /images

you do NOT need the underscore on the filenames ...

    On Subdirectories:
    /images/something

you DO need the underscore on the filenames ...

This is a HUGE help. I have been dumping all images in the /images directory, but for those I am having problems with may create a sub directory for to eliminate the problem. I must have an older version of the zen cart handbook, becuase I don't remember seeing that in there and I have read it a lot. :)

One last question, is there any reason to NOT use a subdirectory under /images ?

I would always use subdirectories ...
