My store based on zen cart is running well for more than a year. Most of my products require shipping except a few ebooks which are download only. My payment gateway is Ccavnue. I am finding that customers who only buy download products are unable to complete their transaction because ccavenue does not function properly without the shipping address. Is there a way to force the downloadable product to ask for shipping details. I realize that it does not make sense to ask for shipping address but I don't know how to get over the payment gateway insisting on a shipping address. Any suggestions? Presently I am asking customers to buy a free product requiring shipping address. A clumsy workaround.

I've not personally used ccAvenue for anything, so don't know its inner workings.
But I do know that many other gateways allow for passing certain parameters to indicate that certain information is not available. Or sometimes they skip collecting information "on *your* site" and instead redirect the customer to the gateway's server for making the payment, and while they're there they can ask whatever information is needed from the customer regardless how much info the customer has provided on your site already.
Maybe it's worth talking to ccAvenue for assistance..

It works now. I changed the setting for the ebook as follows:
Product is Virtual: Yes, Skip Shipping Address No, Shipping Address Required set to NO
Always Free Shipping: Yes, Always Free Shipping No, Normal Shipping Rules
Special, Product/Download Combo Requires a Shipping Address set to special product/download combo requires shipping address
It is not a combo product but the setting is good enough for Ccavenue to work so why not use it? That was easy after a days hairpulling.
