And, now, continue with the test of PayPal using curltester, as explained in that article I linked to, by adding ?paypal=1 to the URL so that it checks the PayPal servers, not the Zen Cart server.

The results are good. Carry on with installation.

The CURL error you were seeing during zc_install is a problem caused by SiteGround's servers being specifically blocked because many of them have been hijacked by spam bots spamming the Zen Cart forum. Something to keep in mind if you continue to use that company's servers.

    Hello,

My name is Svetlio and I am a member of the SiteGround Senior Technical Support Department.

I have checked the case in details and confirmed that the Curl service works correctly on our servers. The reason for the failed Curl queries to the zen-cart.com website is the fact that the IPs of some SiteGround shared servers are blocked at the ZenCart's end.

We take issues with the spam activity very seriously. We do our best to stop spam messages and bots activity from our servers.

We have described in details the latest steps which we have taken in this direction in our blog:

    http://blog.siteground.com/spam-free/

So we are very concerned about your statement:

The CURL error you were seeing during zc_install is a problem caused by SiteGround's servers being specifically blocked because many of them have been hijacked by spam bots spamming the Zen Cart forum.
Moreover, we are surprised to understand for such spam activity originating from our servers.

We are willing to work together with the Zen-Cart team in order to prevent such issues in the future and have our servers unblocked.

In order to complete a throughout investigation on this problem please provide us with all the relevant logs and the time when spam bots originating from our servers have been spamming your forum.

Please either post the logs in this forum thread or send them to us at [email protected].

We are looking forward to your reply in order to permanently resolve the issue.

    Best Regards,
    Svetlio

Thanks for coming in here to see what may be possible, however, the owner chose to leave your hosting since he wanted his store to be up and running and only wanted to use PayPal. We did send numerous messages about this problem we were having and I kept being told to use the installer on site vs the manual install and that it was me that was probably doing something wrong by doing manual install and was even told to disregard the error message and continue with the installation.

If your servers are being blocked from this forum -- then maybe someone will be able to work with you to rectify this for your future hosting needs so the clients are not made to look like fools for doing what they know is correctly done.
