How can I copy categories/products from one site to upload to another site

I want to copy a category and its products from one Zencart site (site 1) and upload it to another site (site 2). Site 1 has many categories and products and site 2 has just been loaded with Zencart (v 1.5.1) and a few plugins but no products as yet. So I need to copy category,products, product description, meta tags etc. (to save many, many hours of re-work).

Not a good idea because there are many tables that are interlinked and grabbing them will cause issues

You could get easy populate and learn how to export and import with it

Thanks Kobra - will take it onboard. In the past I have copied whole site via ftp, loaded to new site then deleted what I didn't want - worked OK when needing say 6 out of 10 categories, but this time I only need one category and 30 products.

Not sure how you did this because you can't copy the database using FTP, and as all the product info is in the database, you must have made a duplicate database as well...

If not, then your "copied files" were drawing the data from the ORIGINAL database - a dangerous situation !!!

The only module that will "safely" export and import product data is "Easy Populate".

For zencart version 1.5.x you will need Chadderuski's Easy Populate Ver 4.

For zencart version 1.3.x you will need Langer's Easy Populate Ver 1.2.5.4

Do not use other versions - they are all "shaky".

You do a full EXPORT, then after opening the file in a spreadsheet, simply DELETE everything you don't want, then save the file in the appropriate format, and use EP to IMPORT it into the other store.
