New products page displaying recently updated products, not new ones

My "What's new" page is displaying any products that I've recently updated or ammended.

Is there a way to just show the recently added items?

The "date" used for "is it new" is based on the date you added the product. If you're "updating" products, that doesn't affect the "added" date (unless you're using some 3rd-party "update" tool that doesn't properly retain original dates).
