Excel Export of Customer Contact Details and Customer Order History?

Im a newbie, so please forgive me if this already exists, but having searched through the forums for a few hours I was not able to find a reference to this requirement.
I want to be able to download and export to Excel a set of data that is a join between the customer contact details and each customer's product order history. Iow, I want to produce a spreadsheet that has customer name followed by address, email, phone number, and then for that customer his/her product order/purchase history, product name/ID, product category, volume ordered/purchased, product order date, certain custom defined product fields.
I would like to filter the download by customer name e.g. customer name =a* or customer name >=a* and <= lzzz*, as well as by order date. e.g all orders between 01012013 and 04012013

Any advice or assistance will be greatly appreciated

Doubtful this will work - the poster is running an outdated v.1.2.5
