Default Determine weight of an existing order

Is there a way to determine the weight of a placed order?

I'm guessing that the answer is "No, not without assuming that the individual products (a) still exist and (b) still weigh the same" because there's no weight captured in the database orders table and the orders_products table doesn't contain a column for the product's weight.

Unfortunately, this is not a saved field in the orders table nor the orders_products table ...

If displayed, this is saved as part of the text in the orders_history table ...

This can be recalculate, but the better solution would be to add a new field to the orders table, such as shipping_weight, and/or the orders_products table, such as products_weight, and add the weight when the Order is created for later use ...

Thanks for the quick confirmation, Ajeh. I find it "interesting" that the orders_products_attributes table records the information and will head down the path you implied regarding adding fields to the orders and orders_products tables.

Thanks, Ajeh, I will! There are a couple of other product fields that aren't carried out to the order that would also help to properly edit or pay an invoiced order:
    • products_virtual
    • products_quantity_order_min
    • products_quantity_order_units
    • products_quantity_mixed
    • products_quantity_order_max
    • product_is_always_free_shipping
    • products_mixed_discount_quantity

I do not know if we would add all those fields but we will talk it over ... and see ...

Thanks, Ajeh; the most important ones for me at this point are products_virtual and product_is_always_free_shipping as those appear to be used by the "real" (as opposed to an invoice-type) payment modules.
