Welcome Greeting - Choosing the salutation for the first or last name

I have a two language cart. When a new account is made in the English side, a welcome email is sent out with "Dear Mr Smith" which is fine.

For the Japanese side however, the email is sent out with the salutation to the first name, which is not definitely not polite. I have done some searching to try an find out how to change this, but have not had any luck.

I will use the English side in this example.

In this code:

includes/languages/english/create_account.php I can see:

define('EMAIL_GREET_MR', 'Dear Mr. %s,' . "\n\n");

so I am wondering how I can change the code that decides the field that %s uses for its data?

Or is there another way to go about this?

Have you considered just turning off the Salutation field ?

Actually, the salutation is not the problem!

It is the order that the names appear in the Welcome Message (and for that matter, in the 1st, 2nd & 3rd checkout pages of the store).

For the English side they are fine but for the Japanese side the names need to be displayed in the order of Last Name, First Name.

You're gonna have to make this change in more than this place.. ALL the customer e-mails for example use this same customer name variable..

Personally I wonder if you could make it easy on yourself and turn off the welcome message all together..

As the site is more of a Japanese site than an English one, I don't mind adjusting whatever needs adjusting to get it right.

If you or someone will give me an example of what I need to do, I will work my way through whatever needs to be done to get it right!

Well, I have found what appears to be a workable solution. What I have done (it still needs more testing) is to change the label on the First Name/Last Name fields on the Japanese New Customers Form (includes/languages/mytemplate/japanese.php). So I swapped, Last to First, and First to Last.

Now, when Japanese people make a new account their family name ends up in the same field as English speaking members...

I would like to know how to change the physical order of the name field label and fields so that on the New Customers form, instead of:

First Name
Last Name

it is:
Last Name
First Name

Is this doable?
