How to remove Featured [More] sidebox from homepage only?

Please let me know how to remove Featured [More] sidebox from homepage only

Note that at present half of the site if off to the right because I'm trying to place an image of Paypal payment options, however the Featured sidebox is still visible.

You can customize, using your templates and overrides, the file:
/includes/modules/sideboxes/featured.php

and add the code in RED:

Another way to do it is to go to your admin page and under tools there is layout boxes controller. There there is a list of stuff and every list item that has the word banner in it you edit the left/right column status to off .
