Default Can I display my site differently on my tablet?

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help with something I am trying to do. In my site I have products displayed in columns, I also have a mobile site that runs along side and displays products in a single row which looks fine on a smartphone.

I would like to find a way to display columns when viewed on a tablet ie iPad. I'm thinking that maybe an overide can be written so that when the site is viewed on a device with a display 1024x768 (ipad mini) it automatically changes to column view.

Or is that just a big ask?

    Thanks

I have been looking at a file on the mobile site "mobile_detect.php" perhaps there is a way to redirect tablets to another template.

    Any thoughts would be helpful.

    Thanks

You can do it in two different ways. You can use CSS3 media queries to hide or display specific portions of your page based on the dimensions of the device. You can also use a mobile detection script (I prefer the one from the google code website) and then add statements specifying whether you want to display a portion of your page based on the device that your visitor is using.

There is an advantage to using the script or any mobile detection script for that matter and that is, when using media queries, your site is hiding the content however, all the code that comes along with it is still being loaded. If you use a script you can hide and remove the content completely therefore making your site somewhat faster.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not great at CSS but have learned quite a bit since building the site. I will try the link to a mobile template on a test site and have look a the latest release of mobile_detect.php
