Default I think I did something bad...

    Hi everyone,

So I've been working on my workplaces new website for a while now..

Everything is starting to come together and look great, however I have a problem...

When I started work on this I didn't understand how templates work, so I was just editing files where I needed to and not creating custom template folders. In other words if I update my zen cart from 1.5.0 to 1.5.1 I'm fairly confident I'm going to lose the majority of my template files...

Does anyone know a way to figure out what files have been edited or some round about way that I can update zen cart?

I seriously regret not making the custom template folders.. but now that I haven't and I've edited countless files I thought I should ask in-case there's something I can do...

Thanks in advance for all replies! :)

    regards,
    Dave Brady

Download trial version of Beyond Compare.
Download all your store files to desktop.
Download fresh copy of your ZC version.
Compare your files to clean files.
Move edited files into YOUR_TEMPLATE folder
Overwrite default files you've messed with back into your folders from the clean copy.
    Voila.

Same situation on my case . I've started 4-5 years ago , learning / doing on the run and now I'm in trouble . Is there a place where learn about zencart structure and developer best practices ?

Okay, so firstly thank you picandnix for letting me know this can be fixed and telling me how! :)

I've got Beyond Compare now, bought the full version because it seems pretty helpful.

However I'm struggling with using it.. I've got the 2 folders comparing via the folder compare but when I start looking through it seemingly every single file is different... >_> For example I decided to start with the includes folder which I know for sure will have files that need to be moved into their own custom folders. I can't find a single file in there that isn't red (newer / different). So is it trying to tell me that I should just copy ALL of the files? This seems extremely wrong....

As always I appreciate all the help that you guys give!! Thanks again picandnix for getting me this far! :)

Perhaps I should look at paying a pro to fix it up? >_>

Did you make sure to download your current zencart version rather than comparing it with a 1.5.1 fileset?

e.g if you are currently running 1.3.9 download a new 1.3.9 fileset and compare the files. Anything different put in the respective your_template folder
