Default Info: PayPal migration to 2048-bit certificates does not affect Zen Cart sites

FYI - many merchants are getting email notices from PayPal that PayPal is migrating to 2048-bit SSL certificates between July-December 2013.

The architecture of Zen Cart is unaffected by this change.

    ACTION REQUIRED: NONE.

Default Re: Info: PayPal migration to 2048-bit certificates does not affect Zen Cart sites

Despite the assertion above that no action is required if you're using the built-in PayPal features of Zen Cart, some have been asking for a way to "test" their sites anyway.

The easiest way to test your site is to upload the attached file to your server and run it via your browser.
If you still have an /extras/ folder on your server, that's an ideal place to put it. But you can put it anyplace you want (EXCEPT not in your /includes/ folder or anything under it).

    1. Unzip the attached file.
    2. Upload it to your server. (either in the /extras/ folder OR perhaps in the same folder as your ipn_main_handler.php file)
    3. Then type its URL in your browser, ie: example.com/extras/testconnect.php (or perhaps example.com/testconnect.php)

Before August 14, 2013, look for the results from "PayPal Express/Pro Sandbox".
After Aug 14, look for the results from "PayPal Express/Pro Server".

Ideally of course all tests will pass, and will display so on-screen.
If they don't, log a ticket with your hosting company to fix them. Point them to this post so they can see that the script is a standalone script which directly makes its own test calls to the PayPal servers. It's not something they should just "dismiss" because "it's a 3rd party software", because this script is merely showing whether the server can successfully connect to various external servers/services. All the logic to understand what it's doing, and for diagnosing the problems, is contained in this one simple file. Their tech staff can use that script to test your server without interfering with your store in any way.
