I have opened a ticket with my hosting company. They said on the initial curltester.php that they arent even able to ping zen-cart.com like they are blocked. They are perfectly willing to fix the problem but we need to know what the issue is.

Proceed with installation.
It's very possible that your host's IP got blocked from the forum because of spam originating from one of their unmonitored servers.

Your site doesn't need to talk to the zen-cart.com server for any reason in normal use. The only time it ever tries what you saw is during the install just to test CURL. But you've proven that CURL is fine to connect to sites that *do* matter for your normal use.
