Option to purchase cooler bag when going through shipping options

Hi

We are setting up a food catering and delivery site. All the food needs to be kept cool and we will request our customers to put out a cooler bag to receive the delivery. I would like the customer to have the option to purchase a cooler bag at the point of going through the shipping details (not listed in the product list). Can anyone suggest mod I can use to achieve this?

Hi,

The easiest and quickest thing you can do is:

Clone the current shipping module you are using with a different name
Also clone the language file for the shipping module with the new name
Change the wording on the new language file to reflect the cooler bag
Install the new Shipping module
Set up a higher price for the new Shipping module.

Is this just 1 cooler bag per order? Or does it matter "how much" the customer buys to determine the number of cooler bags that they need?

I am not so sure if that cloning idea is really going to be an easy task if using USPS, UPS or FedEx ... or a combination of the 3 ... or all 3 of those modules ... as those will be a bit of a nightmare to clone ...

Hi,

I only recommend the cloning of the following shipping modules:
Flat Rate, Per Item, Per Unit, Store Pickup, Table Rate and Zone Rates.

As I said this would be quick and easy.
If you have coding skills you can go ahead and do something better.

NOTE: Might want to be pretty cautious on Table Rate table and Zone Rates zones ... as those can be rather wicked to clone as well ...

Basically we want to give the customer an option, just before checkout, to buy a cooler bag. If they choose not to (and this is what we would prefer) they are given lots of warnings to put out a cooler bag/box so the food stays fresh.

The shipping module I am using is a clone of a local delivery mod, I am not sure that just changing the shipping mod is what I am after as I do not want the adding of a cooler bag to be default depending on what the customer buys.

I would try getting the Extra Order Fee Order Total add on Plugin and customize that to be used for the choice of does the customer want a cooler bag or not ...
