Installing a goof free upgrade from 1.39f to 1.5.x

I wrote my ZC website about 5 years ago and really don't really remember much of the code. However, I would like to upgrade to 1.5.x. But, to assure that present web site on version 139f is not compromised by the upgrade and no matter what happens I can go back to version 139f.

What do I need to do to upgrade to the latest version and put all the information in 139f into the latest version for testing without disturbing my present web site.
