Potential problems by changing existing products_model field

For an existing live site; If a shop owner has to revise all the products_model field values, for a particular manufacturer, to a different value, what are the possible problems, shop owner would be faced with?

It is understood if revised, all products_model values for prior orders cannot be changed!

Changing the Product's products_model should not be a real issue other than search engine results that might reference the products_model in some manner ...

If you use import programs that utilize this field there could be implications, but I do not use any of them to really give you a full summary of the details/cautions that you may or may not need to be aware of ...

Custom reports that utilize the products_model could be affected ...

If you search orders based on products_model, then the table:
orders_products

will be out of date, but you could decide if you want to globally replace the field:
products_model

with the new values, giving care to the fact that any references that might be public to your customers that involve the products_model might affect old order references ...

Would you recommend changing all instances of changed value of products_model, in both tables, products and orders_products?

Based on how I use products_model where I like to do a search of Orders to find Orders with the same Product and products_model is handy for the search so yes, I would update both tables ...
