Requiring account creation using when using Paypal Express?

Due to some issues with scam artists I've changed to using the Paypal Express module in order to require confirmed addresses. Unfortunately, that module does an automatic account creation and does not need customer input. What I'm ending up with is accounts that are missing a lot of required information, such as phone number and birth date.

I've looked everywhere trying to find an answer to this question. Is there a way to change the settings to require account creation before the Paypal Express purchase, while keeping it a part of the purchase process?

I'm on ZenCart 1.38a (and not looking to upgrade).

Look at Express Checkout Shortcut Button option in the Paypal Express configuration.

Not trying to lecture you, but Zencart version 1.3.8 is insecure and susceptible to hacking and can't be made secure. I think I owe it to my customers to use the most secure version possible.

Thanks, but I'm not seeing that option anywhere.

And while I'd like to upgrade, the server I'm running the site on does not support anything over 1.3.8. Last time I tried to upgrade it screwed everything up. I'm jumping to another host soon anyway, but in the meantime this is an issue.

Admin - Modules - Payment - Paypal Express Checkout - Express Checkout Shortcut Button. That option may not be available for your Zencart version.

Apparently it isn't available for 1.3.8. Is that the only way to alter it?

Is it possible to require confirmed addresses through the old Paypal IPN?

I don't know. I haven't used it in years. It wouldn't be the solution anyway, since IPN (Standard) can introduce another, more serious problem (no order information from Paypal).

It should be possible to remove thet Express shortcut button from the shopping cart page using something like this in the stylesheet:
