    Default Re: renaming directory folder

I'm back...hoping this won't give you a Monday headache right off the bat. I am trying to do the upgrade; successfully downloaded the 1.5.1 files and uploaded them to server. (I'm following the instructions from http://www.zen-cart.com/content.php?148.) Right off the bat I've got a question: I cannot find the two configure.php files. In 1.3.8 they were in Admin>Includes and in the Includes folders. They are not there in 1.5.1.

Have they both been moved or did I get an incomplete zip file and should I start over?

Thanks...we can always hope this is going to be the last of the questions! (But we both know better, alas and alack!)
Thanks for your last reply by the way...it gave me a much needed smile!

You should read the FAQs based on Install and Upgrade to see the differences ...

To install a new version into a working directory, you would have subdirectory such as:
    /workdev
    /v151

that you have loaded all of the files ...

Zen Cart does not come with the files:
    /includes/configure.php
    /admin/includes/configure.php

    the come with:
    /includes/dist-configure.php
    /admin/includes/dist-configure.php

Those two files you rename to:
    /includes/configure.php
    /admin/includes/configure.php

Now you can run a clean Install with the demo data to your NEW database that you would have created by running, if your subdirectory is /v151:
    /v151/zc_install

Now, follow the Installation giving the data for the new directory, new database, new user, new password and install the demo data so that you can just see if everything is working ...

Once you can see all is working, you want to do an Upgrade ...

This can be done by copying of your Live database to your NEW database ...

NOTE: for the Upgrade, you need your directory:
    /v151/yoursecretadmin

    renamed to:
    /v151/admin

You also need to make sure the directory:
    /v151/zc_install

exists, as you had to rename that when doing the first Install in order to test things ...

    Now, when you run the:
    /v151/zc_install

you will see an option to run an Upgrade ...

You will see checkboxes for the various pieces of the Upgrade that you have to run ...

I usually do one checkbox at a time starting with the first checkbox that is checked and unchecking any checkboxes below it ...

If you read the FAQs on Upgrades, there are a lot more details spelled out to help do this successfully ...

Hello Ajeh. I've been working on the upgrade all week and have had some success and (alas) some failure. I have successfully gotten to the Zencart setup Finished page. I can access both admin and the test site. Following your instructions as per above (for which I will be forever indebted to you for taking so much time to be so detailed) and reading everything I can find on upgrade (some of which conflicts with your steps but I'm sticking with your method) I have gotten to the Upgrade page.

    Your instructions state:

"You will see checkboxes for the various pieces of the Upgrade that you have to run ...

I usually do one checkbox at a time starting with the first checkbox that is checked and unchecking any checkboxes below it ..."

When I do the "second" install to get to the upgrade, at the bottom of the ZenCart System Inspection page it says: If you are Upgrading, be sure to choose "Database Upgrade" below to keep your data. If you choose "install", you will erase all the contents of your database.

Then the choices are: install, Upgrade Cfg Files, Database Upgrade, Re-Check.

When I clicked on Database Upgrade, I got the message that I didn't need to upgrade the database.

I don't know what to do next to run the upgrade to the site. Maybe I've already done it and didn't realize it? I'm feeling SO lost and slightly hopeless, but I keep rereading your reply about everyone having to go through the learning curve. Thank you yet again for your patience.

That means either you've already run zc_install and upgraded the database (if you look at the ZC Version it displays on the previous screen where it inspects the server, it'll tell you what ZC version it thinks it found in the database), or you've got your configure.php files pointed to the wrong database and/or database-prefix.
