Need suggestion for adding an extra charge for a particular category

The site I'm working on sells truck parts. There are specific electrical parts where a core charge fee needs to be added. Rather than adding that flat fee to the price of the items, the client wants to have an additional charge added when an item is placed in the cart during checkout. I figured placing those particular items in a specific category may make it easier to identify those types of products, but I need a suggestion as to how to add that extra fee in as well as indicating what the fee is so the customer can see what they are being charged and why. The other thing to consider is whether the core charge would be added to each separate item in that category or whether just a one time flat extra fee would be added no matter how many items in that category are added to the cart. I need to be able to possibly do both. I've seen some posts on the CEON advanced shipper. Would this be the way to go? The client is using FedEx as shipping carrier and may also use UPS as well. Would it interfere with the shipping carrier charges in any adverse way?

Define a radio-button option named "Core Charge Fee" with a value of "Included". Add this pair as an attribute to the product, specifying the attribute as required and having a one-time value of whatever your fee is.

Do a search for 'starter' to find core charges.

This adds attribute information to the order from the product page -> shopping cart -> order -> customer email -> admin

Displays core charges to the customer and the admin.

I'm uncertain what changes will be needed for shipping, the core charges are added to the regular attributes fields.

I added an attribute and called it Core Charge. Added radio button-a value which is just some text referring to the core charge. Then I added the price. I set the attribute flags as
Used For Display Purposes Only: Yes
Attribute is Free When Product is Free: No
Default Attribute to be Marked Selected: Yes
Apply Discounts Used by Product Special/Sale:Yes
Include in Base Price When Priced by Attributes: Yes
Attribute Required for Text:Yes

You will notice that when you go to view the item at http://www.allmakestruckparts.com/in...roducts_id=362, The attribute shows up but also the Please Choose also shows up. I don't want Please Choose to display. Is there a way to turn this off?
