Do you mean whether they use Visa or Mastercard, etc?
What payment methods are you using?

There's no Zencart mod I'm aware of that will do that. If you store credit card details on your site you open yourself up to a lot of PCI nonsense.

Amazon has millions of dollars to spend on the highest security for such sensitive information. How much do you have to spend on it?

It would be technically possible and should be PCI compliant if you modified a payment module like Authorize.net and used their CIM, or BrainTree and utilized their vault. It is possible but it would take a significant of modification and doubtfully be worth it. As long as YOU weren't saving their information, but utilized a 3rd party token and and authentication. I know with Authorize.net's CIM you need to have the correct customer number, customer profiled ID, Payment Profile ID, and Shipping Profile ID, and just to have the customer change their credit card number is a giant mess.

If your looking for recurring payments, PayPal's system works quite well, and they bare the burden of PCI compliance.

Before this spins out of control, I think the OP only wants to store the name of the payment method, not the actual payment data
