The problem is, you need to delete the file:

as it does not belong there ...
I am pretty sure that will be the source of the problem ...

OK. Did that, error gone, thanks. Will check again now to see if a zero order works.
Still no luck. Unable to close out $0.00 balance order unless I have the "Check/Money Order" option available.
Freecharge never shows up as an option still. Stumped.
Do you have StoreCredit installed & enabled?
I have similar symptoms that I didn't realize until quite a bit after installing and I just live with it.

I do have Store Credit installed & enabled...
So saying that store credit is affecting the use of/functionality of freecharger? And that if that module is removed tht freecharger works again?

Contribution for contributions welcome...
Can't say that IS causing the issue but we only noticed the problem weeks after installing "Store Credit" that if a customer's store credit were greater than the order being placed, checkout could not be completed.
Since it only happens once in a few blue moons, it was easier to just enable check/money order option for payment for when that happens.
My test site is in disarray right now or I'd try a thing or two.
It seems as though that might be a bug that was allegedly fixed in 2008 but that particular developer doesn't always have support threads for their contributions.
3. Bug: When credit covers payment methods were disabled even when not applied;
