    Default Hostgator PHP change

Hostgator will be upgrading to PHP5.4 on 5/22/14. I am currently running v151. I have downloaded the patches I need to install for PHP5.4 to work on this version of zc. My question: can I install the patches before PHP5.4 is active on the server or do I need to wait 'till after to install the patches?

    Please help.

    Thank you.

    It's simpler than that:

Just follow the instructions Hostgator gave you:

    a. login to hostgator cPanel
    b. scroll down to the "PHP Configuration" icon and click it
    c. change the pulldown menu choice from "PHP Default" to "PHP 5.2"
    d. save

Then, after you've upgraded your store to ZC v1.5.3 or newer you can go back to the above settings and change it to PHP 5.5 for maximum future compatibility.

Keep in mind that some of their shared plans have already made the switch to 5.4. In fact they are prepping right now and my friends 1.51 logs folder was full of errors in the thousands of timezone errors. I had to revert his site back to 5.3 with htaccess file. Something strange is that 5.2 no longer works on his site with hostgator as it throws a blank white screen. With 5.4, it had the timezone errors. And with 5.3 everything works just fine as normal.
