Putting a product on sale without putting in specials section

As my title describes, I am looking to put certain products on sale but I don't want them appearing on the specials page. I tried sale maker but that is only at a category level and not at a product level.

What is the best way to do this?

Haven't tried this, but was wondering if the following would work: create a new category to which the sale would apply, link only those products that are to be on sale to the category, disable the category and see if the sale still applies? Otherwise wondering if moving the produuct to said new sale category and linking it to it's needed category and doing the same thing, but ensuring that the product remains active regardless at the end of all of that.

Otherwise, via database, I think the specials items get linked into a specials category (products_to_categories table) and removal from that table via myphpadmin or sql atatement would remove it from the specials "section". I don't know the affect on the actual sale though.

Thanks for the reply. Not sure if that is going to do the trick. Any way to replicate the specials scenario but call it Sales? then I would not have a Sale page on the main page.
