Default How to get Sales Tax to show up as such in Paypal?

    Hi,

I have my ZenCart configured to collect sales tax for certain states.

But when I look at the transaction in Paypal, its sales tax amount is 0 and it's all lumped together.

    So for example:

    In ZenCart:
    Product total: $47.45
    Shipping: $8.35
    Sales tax: $2.85

    In Paypal:
    Gross: 58.65
    Sales tax: 0
    Shipping: 0

The problem with it not being broken out properly in Paypal occurs if you're using a sales tax paying service, like I'm trying to. There is no way of knowing how much I have to pay out in sales tax by looking at the Paypal transaction.

So my question is, do I have Zencart configured incorrectly? How can I get ZenCart to send the amounts over to Paypal in the correct fields like it shows in ZenCart (products vs. shipping vs. sales tax)?

Or is this just a limitation of how Paypal works with ZenCart and there's nothing I can do about it? (and yet another reason why I hate Paypal)?

    Thanks.

On all my Zen Cart stores using PayPal, it does pass the tax thru to PayPal properly.
I'm using Zen Cart v1.5.4 with payment modules for either/both of PayPal Express Checkout and PayPal Payments Pro (ie: NOT Payments Standard)

So, Zen Cart itself does normally handle passing the tax fine.

Could it be you're using a different payment module?
Or you've modified the code in various places that has caused this effect?
Or added plugins which have broken the normal operation?

IMHO the PayPal Standard payments module is somewhat obsolete and should be taken out of ZC in future releases. But..... there may be a valid reason why it is still there - DrByte would have the answer.

I think you're probably right. I've been using ZC for many years now and haven't been good about keeping abreast of the times. When they first came out with Express and I looked into it, there was something that didn't work quite right. If I recall, I think it was that you couldn't give the customer the option of paying just with a credit card and not with PP. But that problem has long since been fixed, so I really didn't have any reason to stay with Standard.
