    Default Main_Page dissappeared.

    And, I was doing so well!!!!
    My site is Poscheap.com

    I don't know what I did but suddenly the main_Page is blank.
    Right above the word " home" at the top shows "e-z ""shared pages||Xen Cart"

    To simplify things I just put the following into the main_page.
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html>

    <body>

    <h1>My First Heading</h1>

    <p>My first paragraph.</p>

    </body>
    </html>
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    I was not in any of the overrides but making changes to the product listings and Main_page.

    Thank you
    Bill

    If it is a define page you are editing, what are you putting in the HTML and body tags?

    The original information that was in the main_page was long an complicated.
    I removed the original information and put this very simple HTML program in to show that it was not the information in the main_page that was causing the problem.

    By the way the ">>>>" arrows are not in main_page. They are just there to show the beginning and ending of the information in main_page.

    Even though you haven't told us exactly which file you were editing I can tell you that adding the doctype and html headers into any 'editable' page *will* cause errors.

    The reason being is that ZenCart inserts these automatically as it is 'building' the page prior to sending it to the clients.

    For your own sanity *please* get into the habit of only editing files in the overrides. If the file you wish to edit doesn't have an override than copy the original file into the override folder and then make the edits.

    Other than files in the admin section all(?) the others can use the overrides.

    Not only will this save *your* sanity, but it will help us to help you with any issues that you may come across, because quite often one of the 1st questions we will ask you is "does the problem go away if you switch back to the 'classic' template. If you've edited the default files you remove the ability to perform this quick and easy debugging test.

    Cheers

    I hope I have not mislead anyone.
    The main_page I am talking about is in
    Admin>tools>define page editor>Define main_page.php

    I have always made changes to that main_page so that the information would appear on the middle of my zen cart screen and it usually worked.

    Was that wrong?

    No, that should be right. Have you tried just putting some text in that file rather than HTML and see if it shows up on the page? Are there any error files in your /logs folder?

    Stepesh:

    Thanks, you got this issue back on track.

    put in plain text and nothing showed up.
    Excuse my ignorance.

    Where do I find ?logs folder?

    Is this fixable by an expert and where do I find one?

    I like your icon. it looks like James dean in highway 66?

    Are you available?

    The /logs folder is in the root (top) directory of your files, accessible using your FTP program.

    Have you installed any mods? I'm seeing a reference to class="category_tree_wrapper" in the source of the page, which doesn't exist a stock Zencart installation.

    This is a case where you need to be your own expert. We were all where you are at one time. Zencart is a little complicated for a new user, but not really that bad.

    No, you didn't mislead anyone, but we did need to know which file you were editing and how you were editing it.

    No, not wrong, but if you haven't used the override folders it is still something that I'd urge you to consider.

    What is wrong though is if you are adding the Doctype and/or HTML headers into the page being edited as this will almost certainly mess things up. The exact results being browser dependent (some handle badly formatted html better than others, and if you are adding these headers to the page you will most certainly have badly formatted html.
    A blank page doesn't surprise me if the headers have been duplicated (once by the normal ZenCart page rendering, and the other being the ones you added.

    Cheers

    RodG:

    I use the overrides when necessary but that is not the problem. This in not about how it appears on browsers.
    I just there that code in to keep it simple.
    The problem is no matter what I put in Admin>tools>define page editor>Define main_page.php.
    ****It does not appear on the screen.****
    I can see page 2 and page 3 with no problem.
