One could also temporarily enable email logging to verify emails are sent by Zen Cart. Keep in mind the email server (not Zen Cart) is ultimately responsible for dispatching and delivering emails. Very similiar to sending a postal letter (Zen Cart = You; Email Server = Post Office).
SMTPAUTH = Use SMTP with Zen Cart configured server and port. Send Zen Cart configured username and password to authenticate. Will report if unable to contact email server and if email server reports an error while receiving the email request.
