How to link/forward one category to another?

Basic info:
1.3.9h
Subcategories w/images are shown in the body of the page.

I am trying to make it so that if a user clicks on a subcategory image, they are redirected to another category or subcategory.

Purpose:
Let's say we have 5 categories. Each category will have multiple subcategories. At least 1 of the subcategories will be common across all 5 categories. Instead of having to maintain the same subcategory 5 times, I would like to set it up once in Category 1. Then point that common subcategory for Categories 2 through 5 to that of Category 1. This way, if new products are added I don't have to be concerned with them being linked to 4 other subcategories. Only 1 has to be maintained if you follow my logic.

I have tried to insert something such as
<a href="/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=114100">A_Access.jpg</a>
in the image path of a category, but that did not work.



Any thoughts?

As long as the products within the categories are to be consistent, ie identical, try linking. Products can be linked, not categories, so once you have Category 1 and it's products set up, link those products to Category 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Thanks for the reply. I am familiar with your suggestion but that is what I am trying to avoid. Whether I add a product or delete a product, I would have to make sure to link or remove 5 times. Unlike if I could just link/forward the category I would only have to make the change 1 time.
