I get an error message on emails that says "not permitted to relay through this server 550 without authentication." How do I "authenticate"?

Not familiar with that error, but would assume that part of the resolution would be to provide authentication information as available towards the bottom of admin->email
Also not surre from the above post if you are using the setting of SMTP, or SMTP-AUTH for the protocol.

What does this mean? How do I change it?
Admin->Configuration->Email Options
1. Change "Email transport" to SMTPAUTH
2. Then see the 4 or 5 "SMTP" settings further down the screen, and fill in the email servername, mailbox username and password.

Any more suggestions?
Lots of unknowns here.
- Who's your hosting company?
- Where is your email server at?
- Where exactly are you seeing that message?
- What exactly are you doing that triggers that message? Is it triggered by the use of a plugin? Or of a specific feature in your store? Or something else?
- What has your hosting company told you when you informed them of the message?
- What version of Zen Cart are you using?
- What plugins/addons/mods/alterations are in your store that make it different from original Zen Cart distribution files?
- What version of PHP?
