Your site needs to be able to pass the mobile friendly test:

    https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly

All of my responsive templates pass this test ;)

    Thanks,

ok this is what it says: so how tough will this be to correct?

    Not mobile-friendly
    Page appears not mobile-friendly
    Text too small to read
    Links too close together
    Mobile viewport not set

The easiest way to fix it is to install a responsive template.

    Thanks,

I have my own format as to how my site will look. Everything is set up in override folders.

Then you can use the DIY template default to build your own custom template.

    Thanks,

I am a newbie even though I have posted a million times - From a newbie stand point-
    I am at 1.51
From my readings I will need a responsive template to work with my current cart to do all these magically things on all these devices...I work very hard at understanding my site and have it set to my satisfaction. I understand upgrades because I have done a few as I have 2 sites to maintain.
    Q?
I am far from understanding how to do this - I have read many threads and my head is spinning.
Suggestion as to where to start?

I've had good luck with rbarbour's Responsive Classic Silver (https://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1725) template. It gives you a leg-up on styling the buttons and sideboxes and doesn't install anything else, so it's easier to adapt your current customizations to the new, responsive template.

I was looking at the Winchester template???
    It says it has
"Responsive 2 column display--single column home page layout"

I have 3 columns in my store
    www.stitchnframeonline.com
Will this effect the appearance of my shopping experience?

You can use it as a 2 or 3 column layout. The description is a typo ;)

    Thanks,

    Anne
