installation question

Please pardon the basic questions.
I am trying to do an install of ZC 1.5.4 at a new hosting company. It was recommended to me that they knew ZC but I have yet to find someone there who does.
My first question is, my domain is still being hosted at another site on an older version of ZC. I want to rebuild rather than do an upgrade. I am installing it in the root Public.html folder. Can I install my new store using the temp URL given to me by the hosting company and when I redirect the name servers to it will it still work when someone uses the address www.mydomain.com. or do I have to point the name servers to it first.

Yes, BUT, ideally, after you do the "redirect" you'll need to update the configure.php files and replace the "temp URL"s with the "live" ones.

Changing the nameservers is the last thing to do. Actually, this, and the configure.php updates should occur at around the same time.

I have read that and actually practiced doing it at my sandbox site.
What I'm doing is installing a new zc at a new hosting site. I completed the install but now when I try to login all I get is a white screen.
I saw some posts about the php server needing the time set and checked with the hosting company and the time is set.
Any ideas as to why the blank white screen.

Only about a zillion.

To narrow this down you'll need to check your log files for a few clues.

Thanks all for the suggestions and help. I did a fresh download of ZC and uploaded the zipped file to my new hosting site.
There I unzipped the file and was able to get the new install of ZC to work, no blank page. I even was able to migrate from the sandbox site
to the new site with no problem.

Thanks for the update.

This generally isn't the best approach to solving problems, as its usually a last resort option.

However, sometimes it can be/is the quickest and most appropriate one.

At the end of the day, a working site is all that matters :)
