Can't find admin login page after new installation

Hi,

I am new to this, so please bear with me.
I have installed Zen Cart on a Linux server, using Filezilla. It all went ok until I was finished with the installation, and I could not find the admin login page. It says that "this webpage cannot be shown". I have been through all troubleshooting tips and pages I can find.
The error log in cpanel says that the page cannot be found. The error log in Zen Cart says "[16-Jun-2015 22:27:49] PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STATIC in /home2/haltera/public_html/chicken/includes/classes/class.admin.zcObserverLogEventListener.php on line 118" (yes, I renamed admin to "chicken" but reversed it, as I coulnd't get things working.

Any suggestions to what to do would be greatly appreciated :-)

Oh, I thought I had been through that page, but I must have missed something. Checking with the hosting company to fix it now. Thank you so much for your help :-)

Glad to help. Understand that this post (and all future to come) is something that may help others with the "same" problem. The more detail about the conditionss when the problem was encountered, actions taken to try to fix and the final solution will help those that come across this.

So, please, when resolved post as much of this as possible.

Thx MC :-) I'll try to get all the details in when writing.

I cant get hold of the hosting company today, but I made the change in the "class" file as mentioned in that link, from "static" til "self". So the admin page came up :-D But my admin username and password doesn't work. So I thought I might have forgotten the temporary password I made, so I reset the password, but admin still won't let me in with the temporary password. Could this also be a problem related to the php version, or is this something else?
