Default Updating a Local Version from Current Live Version

    Hi guys,

Firstly apologies if there are any suggests on best places to ask this question that would be appreciated.

I needed to update a clients Zen Cart store from their current site. I have managed to download all content and myPhP information and then set up a copy of the store onto my local computer along with implementing and finished the theme.

My question is, once the client is happy. How would I go about best updating the live version theme with this new local version? I want to be sure that I have customers of the store in tact with their individual information. But I am apprehensive about just overriding only some of the store files.

I thought best would be to just create a new folder on the host with new files from my local computer, rather than copy individual folders/files.

if this is unclear i will try to provide more details. The aim is to basically to update the theme, with no disruptions to service.

    thanks in advance

All the customer and sales data is stored in the database, so in theory you should be able to copy just the new files/folders to the store it all will be fine.

In practice, if the database has been modified in any way (typically by an add-on module) AND there have been file changes that hasn't taken this into account you'll end up with DB/PHP related errors. Unless I'm misreading what you wrote this *probably* won't be applicable in your case though. Just make sure you back up the original files before overwriting them with the new ones... just in case.

    Cheers
