Can I Use Elements of Zen Cart in An Existing Site?

I have a basic page with some clothes on it and all I want is 'add to cart', 'proceed to checkout (via PayPal)', 'clear cart' as well as flat-rate shipping and quantity shipping stuff.

Alternatively, is it recommended to replace the existing HTML with my own page/CSS while keeping the above cart stuff?

Basically, I don't need the 'look' of the default template as I already have a layout without any shopping cart.

It does, and it's asked a lot. The basic answer is 'no'. Zencart is meant to be your whole site, and there are many templates available in the Plugins area (I recommend one of the responsive ones) if you don't like the default. I suppose it would be possible to integrate pieces of Zencart into a flat HTML site, but if you're coder enough to do that, you probably wouldn't have asked the question.

Try installing Zencart and one of the templates I mentioned in a subdirectory of your site and see what you think.

Further you can always modify one of those templates to approximate the look of your current site. The content can be "transferred" over as well and end up with urchases of your product.
