Questions about "trackback"

I was randomly checking the Who's Online screen in the Admin today when I noticed someone had attempted to visit a link on my site that ended

...index.php/trackback

When I clicked on the link myself, it just took me to my home page. I've never seen this before and the best I can tell it has something to do with Wordpress.

Anyone have any idea what this person may have been looking for?
