Let me reply just for the sake of others reading this thread.

The "force currency" example that you were using is a completely different matter. That code forces the use of some currency throughout the site IF it's not set.

The code I gave you only forces the system to send specified currency to PayPal. It allows the store to use any currency, but once you go to PayPal for checkout, the system will first (silently) switch to the desired currency and then submit data to PayPal.
