Changing Image Directory

Good morning.

I have my sites in subdirectories and have multiple sites that potentially can use at least some of the same images. I thought I saw somewhere that I could move my images to a common directory in the root or use a photo hosting service for the images, but I can't seem to find it now.

Can someone direct me to the file where I need to change the path to the product images and hopefully I can change just the product image directory.
