Auto Send Email or Order Update Post Order

Hi,
Not sure if there was something like this discussed I couldn't find it.

We will be closed for 2 weeks, we have a message stating that on our website but people don't read, what I want is a message going out after the order is placed automatically

#1) I would enable the terms and conditions box to have people check the box letting them know their order will be delayed (does that make sense?)
#2) An easy solution would be to change the language in the order confirmation email

This would also be to avoid the customer getting multiple emails. Because depending on the customer and your current configuration they could already be getting 3: New Customer, Order Confirmation, Order Confirmation form Authorize.net or paypal

Or modify the "Down for Maintenance" notice before maintenance message so that there is a red banner at the top of every page.
