    Default Missing Meta Tags Prevent Validation

    G'day,

    According to the standards, when certain conditions apply, we should have the following meta tags in the <head> area.

    <meta http-equiv="content-script-type" content="text/javascript" />
    When intrinsic events (onclick, onmouseover etc) are specified the default scripting language should be specified using a Content-Script-Type HTTP header or <meta> tag. See http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/interac...tml#h-18.2.2.1

    <meta http-equiv="content-style-type" content="text/css" />
    When style attributes are used the default style sheet language should be specified using a Content-Style-Type HTTP header or <meta> tag. See http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/present....html#h-14.2.1

    I finally got around to buying a copy of Total Validator Pro so that I can more easily and thoroughly check pages (XHTML, CSS and spelling). Of course it’s throwing up many issues. Some, like this one, will be easy to fix.

    Best regards, Lloyd Borrett.

    Thanks for pointing that out.

    Agreed. When using HTML 4 and inserting <script> or <style> tags without indicating a type= attribute, setting them in the <head> would be relevant.

    However, it's also important to note that if using HTML5 one does not need to specify the type= attribute, as the default is already implied and adding it just makes the page unnecessarily bigger (content-wise).
