per item handling fee

I have looked and cannot quite find the answer to what I need. I want to add a $5.00 per item handling fee on all products in my store. I am using FedEx, UPS and Store Pickup shipping modules. I see where I can add a handling fee (in fedex and ups but not for store pickup), but when I do that it doesn't apply the fee at checkout. Also I believe if functioning correctly, that would add the $5.00 per order not per item.

What is your rationale for adding a fee for store pickup??

The website is for a manufacturer. The handling fee (or warehouse fee) is to encourage people to purchase directly from the distributors. Ideally we would like it to read 'warehouse fee'.

Why not just raise your prices by $5.00?

Customers aren't fools. They know that a $50.00 product with a $5.00 handling fee is going to cost the same as a $55.00 product without a handling/warehouse fee.

Its probably just me, but given two stores selling the same product, I'd tend to buy from the one *without* the extra fee even though the end price is the same. No one likes these 'add on charges'. It is often best that they be kept hidden.

Rather than your intended approach, you would probably get better results by offering a $5.00 discount for those times where the handling/warehouse fee *isn't* required.

Just my 2cents (plus $5.00 handling) :-)
