Database not supported.

Attempting fresh install.
I've had a dormant website and finally have time to give it 100% so I decided to upload a new install to kick it off.
After uploading the newest version, I proceed to run the installer.
My error message is regarding the database:
"The database type you have selected does not appear to be supported by the PHP version you have installed. You may need to check with your hosting provider to check that the database type you have selected is supported. If this is your own server, then please ensure that support for the database type has been compiled into PHP, and that the necessary extensions/modules/dll files are being loaded (esp check php.ini for extension=mysql.so, etc)."
I call GoDaddy only to be told that since I have my own server, I am on my own with this issue.
Honestly, I don't know how to fix this on my own.
Can anyone offer direction?

The newer upgrades to php on servers do not automatically turn on mysql support. Make sure it's on in your php.ini. Looks like (once again) GoneDaddy is cheap till you need it.

If your server has cpanel/whm installed as your manager
Load whm > easy apache > and go through compiling it with the features that you need

Thank you for your response. I took your advice, but honestly do not know what features I need. The installer stops me by stating the MySQL support is OFF. Might you know where to turn this feature on?

I a supposing that you have shell access to this server

If so run this from the cmd line

rpm -qa | grep -i sql

This should return any sql installed

Maybe you do not have mysql installed???

I cannot get ZC version 1.5.4 to install. In fact, I can't get any version after 1.5.1 to install without a MySql error.
Is there a setting i need to adjust? I was pulled away from this project a few months ago but I need to focus on getting my website up with the latest version of ZC. I run a WHM @ godaddy and only know the basic (and I mean very little).
Can someone help me figure this out?
