I didn't call out Taxcloud explicitly but there are two Taxcloud modules shown in the Order Total Module screenshot in the original post, which I assume is how RixStix knew to suggest turning off Taxcloud.
The following mods are installed on my cart:
-Better Together
-Better Together discount preview
-Column layout grid for product listing
-Google analytics
-Image handler 2
-Integrated COWOA
-Invoice 2
-Mailchimp
-Online group pricing
-Quick status update
-Taxcloud
The mod versions installed are those which were current as of March 1, 2015 when swguy upgraded my ZC from v1.3.9 to v1.5.4.
I also have PayPal Express Checkout installed and just learned it uses the correct order total with a Better Together deal whether or not Taxcloud is enabled. PayPal does not use the correct order total when I use a discount coupon defined in the standard ZC module whether or not Taxcloud is enabled. This leads me to believe the source of the problem is not Taxcloud even though disabling it fixes the problem when using Authorize.net (AIM).
Where should I start looking for the source of the problem?

There's a bug in their authorizenet_aim integration. A fix is posted on the Taxcloud support thread here:
