Default Server move, DB not importing

Tried to find this particular situation here but ran across lots of similars but not exactly. I'll try to explain as briefly as possible.

    Running Zen 1.5.4 on apache
    Both servers/stores running 1.5.4

Moving servers, copied everything, it all works great but I cannot get my customer info moved into the new server. Exported old database, imported into the new database and when I look at the new db in myphp it shows the info for the customers from the old site. However when I log into zen admin, I see no customer info at all.

Any ideas or suggestions I can try?

    Thanks for any help given.
    Kat

When you look at the table names in phpMyAdmin, do they all start with a common prefix?

And in your 2 configure.php files what is DB_PREFIX set to? on the new server, and on the old server. You need to copy the DB_PREFIX setting from the old server and use the same one on your new server, else ZC won't know which set of tables it should be looking at.

Definitely on the right track there, thank you. I had tried a few things along those lines but didn't realize that the admin login from the old site would transfer as well and managed to lock myself out before figuring it out....

However, I now have the customers into the new site, which is great but I'm getting the:
"Your database appears to need patching to a higher level. "

While searching the forum for that issue I see quite a few run zc_install comments. My store was an autoinstall from GoDaddy. Now I have done a full install on my own before but have not yet done zc_install. Am I basically running a new install again?

If you look at the article I linked to, it explains that yes you're doing a fresh install on the new server. Then test that it works with demo data. Then import your data.

The article also explains that its advisable to do upgrades either before OR after a move, not "during" the move. But, sometimes there's little choice there. It's just that it's harder to isolate issues related to the "move" separate from issues related to your "upgrade" if you're doing both at the same time.

The zc_install tool has two modes: install and db-upgrade. It will auto-detect whether you've already got a functional database and offer an upgrade option in that case.

It's all explained in the article I linked to.
